Philadelphia Medal of Arts

The creative spirit, if it's encouraged and nurtured, can have far ranging consequences. It can be the source of personal fulfillment, as well as artistic and scientific achievement. And certainly, with the right inspiration, the creative spirit can have enormous benefits for the entire community as well.

That is why it is so critical for school students and their teachers to be supported in their creative pursuits. Because, ultimately, those who have taken advantage of their talents, those who have used their energies and followed their passions, will become the artists of tomorrow.

How can we encourage students today? How can we inspire them? How can we recognize their talent so that they can go on to even greater achievement?

One answer lies in the Philadelphia Medal of Arts.

Developed by Friends of the Arts, Inc., dedicated to promoting the art and culture throughout the region, the Philadelphia Medal of Arts is the culmination of an initiative to recognize the artistic achievements of high school students.

Endorsed by the School District of Philadelphia, this program will serve as an incentive for outstanding student achievement in the arts.

The Philadelphia Medal of Arts will help encourage and promote creativity, and the award will provide an opportunity for students to compete for the recognition they deserve.

The Philadelphia Medal of Arts will be awarded annually in a citywide competition judged by artists and professionals working in the arts.

Designed by the award-winning sculptor, Frank Gasparro, formerly 10th Chief Engraver of the United States Mint, the Philadelphia Medal of Arts is certain to be an admired symbol of achievement. One of inherent value and one that will inspire students in their creative endeavors.
